Three Sisters Creek ErosionMitigation
Canmore/Kananaskis, Alberta
Project Description
In June 2013, a significant rainfall event in Southern Alberta occurred over a three day period that triggered debris floods on a number of creeks in Canmore, AB including the Three Sisters Creek. It has been estimated that over 40,000 m3 of sediment material was transported down Three Sisters Creek and deposited in the pond just upstream of the “AltaLink” pedestrian bridge.
MMM Group and SweetTech have been retained by the Town of Canmore to identify and design additional flood mitigation and protection works for the creek. The work includes river engineering, flood protection, bank stabilization, erosion protection, sediment storage, and culvert, bridge, and road protection measures.
