Andres OCEJO P.Eng.
Sr. Geotechnical Engineer
Professional Experience
Andres has 18 years of geotechnical design, geo-hazard investigation, and material testing of soils experience within all sectors of development from residential to mining and resource development. The majority of the geotechnical design experience Andres has attained has been completed within Alberta and eastern British Columbia, with a significant dedication to foundation design, slope stability and embankment retention.
Andres has extensive experience with large earthwork projects and geotechnical installations for the transportation, mining, and municipal infrastructure sectors. Design experience includes, but is not limited to, geotechnical modeling of slope instabilities, dewatering programs, detailed retention systems, pit wall monitoring programs, safe excavation modeling and implementation, mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) and abutments, shallow and deep foundations, micro-piles, helical piles and soil nailing. In addition to detailed design experience, he has completed hundreds of geotechnical investigations, prepared construction drawings, prepared detailed tender packages, managed large installations, and has implemented and managed large geotechnical QA/QC programs. Andres has implemented and constructed several mobile laboratory testing facilities for a variety of clients, and has significant experience in sedimentary soil material parameter determination. With a passion for management, problem solving, geotechnical design and soil mechanics, he endeavors to apply his skills and experience to introduce novel and cost effective solutions on all future projects.

Select Project Experience
Voyageur Up-grader, Suncor, Alberta – Lead Geotechnical Field Engineer/Manager, Supervised borrow operations from one of largest borrow pits in western Canada, managed all field activities related to QA/QC of the grading/earthwork activities and the installation of 11,000 steel driven pipe piles for the proposed up-grader plant site.
Aspen Estates MagnumStone 13.5 m MSE Wall, Quinn Corp. Holdings, Alberta – Geotechnical engineer of record for a 13.5 m MSE retaining wall. Performed a detailed geotechnical investigation, MSE design, global stability analysis and tendered the project to 8 construction companies. Managed and reviewed all QA/QC activities throughout construction.
Algar Lake Plant #1, Grizzly Oil Sands, Alberta – Lead geotechnical engineer for the development of a large SAGD plant site. Performed investigation to find suitable borrow sources, managed plant site and roadway earthworks, designed and managed the installation of approximately 700 steel driven pilings. Pile capacity was estimated utilizing GRLWEAP and was confirmed utilizing Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) testing.
Little Horse Creek Slope Stability Assessment and Stabilization, Grizzly Oil Sands, Alberta – Lead geotechnical engineer for the design and implementation of a slope stabilization program on all four quadrants of the Little Horse Creek crossing. Upon performing a detailed investigation and design, a dewatering and buttress solution was implemented, successfully stabilizing the area.
Water Intake Gabion Walls and Cofferdam, City of Red Deer, Alberta – Constructed a clay fill cofferdam, performed a detailed slope stability assessment, and designed a 7 m high MSE gabion wall. Managed all quality assurance and control operations during construction.
