Professional Experience

Tom is a student at the University of Alberta in the Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Co-op - Environmental Engineering Option program, through which he has thus far received 12 months of practical experience. Prior to his role at SweetTech, Tom conducted field concrete and soil material testing, gaining valuable heavy civil construction experience. In a subsequent co-op position, Tom gained exposure to municipal servicing and development through performing field construction coordination in a variety of subdivisions in the Calgary area.

Select Project Experience


Chelsea Subdivision, Anthem United, Chestermere, AB, 2022 – Provided field coordination and inspection services for a new build subdivision and a natural gas well abandonment project. Coordinated between internal and external resources including the City of Chestermere.

Midtown Subdivision, SCW Wenzel JV, Airdrie, AB, 2022 – Provided field coordination and inspection services to various construction contractors for a new build subdivision and sanitary sewer line realignment, as well as coordination and communication with City of Airdrie field staff.

Cornerstone Subdivision, Anthem United, Calgary, AB, 2022 – Provided field coordination and inspection services to various construction contractors and City of Calgary field staff. Additionally, provided support for ESC field inspections, quantity takeoffs and construction contract review and writing.

BMO Centre Expansion, PCL Construction, Calgary, AB, 2021 – Performed field compaction and concrete testing for rehabilitation of demolition area and installation of concrete building piles.

 QEII HWY & 40th Street Overpass, EllisDon, Airdrie, AB, 2021 – Conducted field compaction testing and field concrete testing for bridge abutments and piles for a large highway overpass. Worked closely with engineering consultants, and onsite foremen to ensure all projects were completed on time and within project specifications.

West Calgary Ring Road, EllisDon & Volker Stevin, Calgary, AB, 2021 – Conducted field compaction testing, field concrete testing and soil sampling in support of stormwater and transportation infrastructure installation and backfill. Worked closely with project superintendents, and onsite foremen to ensure all constructed elements adhered to design specifications.
