Civil Engineer In Training

Professional Experience

Scott graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, with a focus on environmental and hydrotechnical engineering. Scotts previous work includes time as a Civil/Structural and Forensic Engineer-in-Training, where he gained experience working under professional engineers and within teams with other juniors. During this time, he worked on a variety of engineering projects in both the office and field, with scopes ranging from structural and forensic to hydrotechnical and geotechnical. Scott currently operates as a Civil Engineer-in-Training providing civil engineering support to a variety of environmental and hydrotechnical SweetTech projects.

Select Project Experience

Bragg Creek Flow Gauging Station Upgrade, Wilco, Alberta, 2021 – Engineer involved in the development and preparation of ESC plans to support the removal of an existing water gauge station and the construction of a new one. Worked with the contractor to prepare ESC plans and drawings. Performed site evaluations and construction supervision.

Bragg Creek Flood Mitigation, Wilco, Alberta, 2021 – Field engineer performing erosion and sediment control inspections in support of Wilco’s construction of flood mitigation structures.
Civil Drainage Assessment, Two Hills, AB, 2020  – Design engineer providing technical document assessing surface water drainage issues. Used aerial photos and LiDAR data to determine local drainage basin and flow direction across the site, and to define culvert orientation at drainage inlet. Created remediation strategy to redefine natural flow channel and re orientate drainage culvert. Used rational method to confirm appropriate culvert sizing, and presented assessment and calculations in technical engineering document.

Erosion Rehabilitation and Prevention Design, Two Hills, AB, 2020  – Design and field engineer providing site evaluation and data collection in area of erosion. Collaborated with engineering team to create remediation steps, design, and material selection for new channel surrounding the site. Re-designed destroyed property items including perimeter fencing and equipment pad surfaces, and conducted final drawing reviews.

Cyclopac Structure Dynamic Analysis, Fort MacLeod, AB, 2020 – Design engineer for a limit state and dynamic analysis of large steel frame support structure. Created model for limit state design checks, and adjusted model to closely mimic real-world conditions of the structure by removing elements that added complexity and over enhanced vibrational effects. Used collected sensor data to iteratively tune the models deflections to match those observed during live operations. Analyzed dynamic frequency results to ensure no standing waves formed through the structure during operation and created an engineering report to convey these findings to the client.

FRL Stormwater Management Plan, Foothills Regional LRRC, AB, 2018 - 2019 – Technical Lead for the final year civil engineering capstone project involving the analysis and redesign of a stormwater retention system. Completed land surveying, environmental assessment, hydraulic analysis, and geotechnical lab testing in development of solution. Other tasks included site inspections, stakeholder engagement, and preparation of technical documents to be turned over to Alberta environmental governing bodies for approvals.

For clarity and brevity, this resume features a select few projects related to Water Resources Engineering. Additional relevant project experience related to earthworks, mining, land & parks development, or geotechnical engineering, is available upon request.
