Description
SweetTech was retained by Applied Aquatic Research Ltd. (AAR) to aid in an assessment of damage to public buildings and the surrounding infrastructure due to a heavy rain event.
With no rain gauges or precipitation data located within the city of Grande Prairie, SweetTech used doppler radar to estimate the amount of rain received and the probability of the rain event that occurred. Additionally, eye witness reports and private rain data was procured to include in the assessment. In Edmonton, a desktop review of drawings, as-builts, and a previous recommendation that was provided after a similar flooding event occurred 5 years prior was completed.
Using municipality design guidelines, doppler radar, satellite imagery and historical climate data, SweetTech was able to provide an engineering assessment and professional opinion related to the causes of the flooding damage for insurance purposes. The existing stormwater infrastructure was delineated and assessed to aid in the determination and mitigation of flooding and drainage concerns.
