Description
The proposed Rocky Ridge Gravel (RRG) pit development, located near Irricanna, Alberta, intends to to resume the operations of a grandfathered gravel pit that has not seen activity for more than 40 years. RRG will serve to supply local infrastructure projects with an estimated 360,000 tonnes of aggregate over the course of 4 years, selling approximately 90,000 tonnes annually. The project plans to first complete the extraction of the remaining raw pitrun (aggregates) then properly reclaim the land back to its productive capabilities. This property was previously disturbed (for similar use) prior to 1978 without any subsequent reclamation.
Skland Consulting Corp. (Skland) retained SweetTech to conduct various investigations and prepare several technical plans in support of a required bylaw amendment, development permit application, and provincial regulatory approvals. Throughout the process SweetTech prepared an environmental screening report, geotechnical investigation report, preliminary landscaping/reclamation plans, stormwater managment plan, erosion and sediment control plan, and a transportation impact assessment.
