Description
SweetTech Engineering was retained by Alberta Forestry and Parks to perform a detailed assessment of the existing snowmaking system at the Canmore Nordic Centre, followed by an upgrade program to the existing water intake, pumphouse, and snow making pipeline system.
The first phase of work included camera scoping (internal and external), an operational review, destructive cut-out testing, and corrosion allowance calculations. Based on the results of the testing program, SweetTech provided an assessment and recommendation report complete with cost estimations and life-cycle estimates. The recommendation report highlighted long and short-term priorities to repair, replace, upgrade, and/or maintain the various components of the snowmaking system.
The second phase of the work focused on the multi-discipline design of a wholly new water pipeline for the snow making system, including the intake and fish screen, and the pumphouse process piping, valves, and instrumentation. As the project has moved into construction, SweetTech has also performed Tendering, construction monitoring, and construction contract administration.
SweetTech is leading the project team for the multi-year snow making system upgrade project, which is still ongoing.
