Description
SweetTech was retained by solicitors to aid in an assessment of damages and losses incurred during an active water reservoir construction project. Flooding was caused by the rupture of a watermain close to the site and the Insurer was seeking compensation (in subrogation) for losses due to the flooding.
With no pipe flow data available at the time of incident, SweetTech had to determine the probable flows using different servicing plans and determine the impact on the worksite. FOIP requests, eye witness reports, historical aerial photos, as builts, and environmental data were reviewed in the determination of flood related damages. A site visit was also performed to allow for development of a hydraulic model including stage-storage analysis of flood inflows vs. outflows.
Using municipality design guidelines, doppler radar, satellite imagery and historical climate data, SweetTech was able to provide an engineering assessment and expert opinion related to the causes of the flooding damage for insurance subrogation purposes.
