Description
Evan Thomas Creek is a large sediment transport, steep mountainous creek that is a tributary to the Kananaskis River. As part of continuous flood mitigation works since the 2013 floods, two sediment traps were previously constructed within the creek to retain sediment and debris. Over time, the sediment traps were filled and required complete re-excavation to restore the original designed storage capacity.
Alberta Forestry and Parks retained SweetTech Engineering to provide engineering services for the design, tendering, construction management, and contract administration of the re-excavation project. Through the design and tendering process, SweetTech directly engaged stakeholders and provided substantial engineering support and technical reporting to obtain regulatory approvals.
Construction works were performed from during low flows ahead of the spring freshet from March to May 2023.
