Description
Through a climate change adaptation and flood resiliency grant, the Town of Drumheller embarked on a $81.5 M flood protection program in 2020. Four engineering consulting firms were selected to design and manage 11 dike construction and improvement projects, all adjacent to the Red Deer River.
SweetTech Engineering was selected to manage and coordinate the regulatory approvals for all the consultants’ projects. This work included disturbance or improvements on public lands, private lands, along riparian zones, and the bed and banks of the Red Deer River. As a result, SweetTech conducted many public engagement sessions and consultations with numerous stakeholder groups to ensure successful delivery of this program. Alongside public engagement and stakeholder consultations, SweetTech has also provided regulatory strategy support, management and approvals coordination, and environmental assessments. Regulatory requirements included coordination with Alberta Environment and Protected Areas, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and Transportation Canada. SweetTech was also responsible for Quality Assurance inspections and reporting regarding environmental compliance and erosion and sediment control measures on behalf of the client.
